If Memphis Mitchell had a weakness to exploit, Hampton left Friday's state semifinal still searching for it. The athletic Tigers stalked the Bulldogs seemingly every step of a 57-44 victory to advance to the Class A state championship.

For the second straight year, the BMS track record fell in qualifying. NASCAR's new knockout qualifying format did little to slow down Denny Hamlin who rocketed around the .533-mile oval at 14.761 seconds (129.991 mph).
