Cold weather zaps several area games, Science Hill still on

All three of the Three Rivers Conference contests succumbed to temperatures that started near zero and couldn't fight their way out of the teens. Games still being played as scheduled include David Crockett at Science Hill.

Jameis Winston threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin with 13 seconds left and No. 1 Florida State beat No. 2 Auburn 34-31 to win the last BCS national championship game on Monday night.

Strong start not enough for Bucs against Bears

A dream start was too good for the East Tennessee State basketball team to handle. The Bucs jumped out to a commanding 15-1 lead in the opening minutes, but couldn't maintain the momentum as Mercer earned a 73-63 victory Monday night at Hawkins Arena.
