Building a giant first-half lead, this time the Lady Cyclones didn't let their foot off the gas. They earned a 66-52 victory over Knox Fulton in the championship game of the Class AA state basketball tournament Saturday night at Murphy Center.

Hampton probably got the only Class A draw that could be considered favorable by most observers.The Bulldogs will play Nashville LEAD Academy, a new charter school, in the quarterfinals of the Class A state tournament.

Elizabethton girls advance to Class AA semifinals at state tournament

Elizabethton won its 18th straight game and earned its second straight trip to the state semifinals. The Lady Cyclones (30-3) will face a rematch from last year's quarterfinals against Martin Westview (25-12).

Unicoi County held the Knox Carter to its third-lowest point total of the season, but the Blue Devils couldn't handle four quarters of the Hornets' defensive pressure in a 72-57 Class AA sectional loss Tuesday night at the sold-out gym.

Unicoi County's Class AA sectional basketball game at Strawberry Plains Carter has been postponed tonight. Hampton's home game against Knoxville Grace Christian was also called off.
