Lady Cyclones, Rebels among state's top scorers

A pair of area girls basketball teams are really filling it up this season as Northeast Tennessee houses the top two scoring offenses in the state. But there is a little bit of a catch.

Basketball games shouldn't be portrayed with such a broad brush, though it was satisfying to see Steve Lacy Fieldhouse and The Pitt at Science Hill each paint a masterpiece last week.

It's likely Hampton wouldn't be where it is this season without Stanley Valentine. The Bulldogs are 7-2 in Watauga Valley Conference play and 19-7 overall with Valentine scoring 16 points and grabbing seven rebounds per game.

Junior guard Patrick Good scored 24 points and made 12 of 13 free throws, including 7-for-8 in the fourth quarter, as David Crockett assured itself at least a second-place finish in the Big Seven with a 61-51 win over Science Hill.
