Bulldogs, Lady Rebels capture District 1-A crowns

Coby Jones scored 30 points and Hampton held off a rally to win 82-51 for the District 1-A boys title, while South Greene's girls edged the Lady Bulldogs 52-48 to claim the crown.

University High boys lose, Cloudland girls win in 1-A

A cold spell doomed University High in the third-place game of the District 1-A basketball tournament on Friday as North Greene rallied for a 63-55 win. In the girls' third-place game, Cloudland needed overtime to defeat North Greene 56-51.

Cyclones down Rebels for District 1-AA title

After suffering a pair of very tight losses to the Rebels in the regular season, the Cyclones turned the tables and earned a 66-62 victory in the championship game of the District 1-AA basketball tournament at The Dyer Dome on Friday night.

Top-seeded Dobyns-Bennett's loss in its opening game of the district basketball tournament last week reminded some of those in attendance of the late Bill Wilkins' 1959-60 team at Science Hill, but Wilkins died knowing he'd won the hearts of his players.
