Cyclones can't pull off upset of Knox Fulton

Elizabethton led by five after three quarters but the Falcons came to life and the Cyclones couldn't hold on for the upset. Fulton won 64-50 in a Class AA sectional basketball game Tuesday night at Treadway Gymnasium.

Hampton girls basketball coach Bud Hazelwood said he wouldn't have trouble sleeping after the effort his Lady Bulldogs gave in a 51-49 overtime loss in the Class A girls sectional at Oliver Springs.

The Lady Cyclones will play host to Gatlinburg-Pittman tonight at 7 o'clock in a Class AA sectional basketball game. The winner earns a berth in the state tournament, which begins Thursday.

Science Hill senior point guard Malik McGue made a 14-footer with 1.8 seconds left to give Science Hill a 69-67 victory over Dobyns-Bennett in the regional championship Sunday at the Buck Van Huss Dome.

'Toppers advance to face D-B, Crockett ousted in Region 1-AAA

Familiar foes will square off today in the Region 1-AAA basketball championship. Science Hill held off Tennessee High 52-46 in the semifinal nightcap after Dobyns-Bennett beat district tournament champion David Crockett 57-54 in the opener.

Elizabethton built a 17-point lead, and watched all but one point of it seep away in the fourth quarter. Still the Cyclones earned their first Region 1-AA basketball championship since 2003, holding off Greeneville 53-51.

Leading by just a single point early in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs outscored North Greene by 14 over the final six minutes to earn a 50-35 win in the Region 1-A semifinal on Saturday night at Chuckey-Doak.
