Board votes down coaching policy after public comment

A proposed policy change to bar Johnson City School district employees from coaching athletics at other districts within a 50-mile radius failed unanimously Monday night at a meeting of the system's Board of Education.

Fourth-year Columbia State head baseball coach Mike Corn guided the Chargers to the JUCO World Series this week in Grand Junction, Colorado. Columbia State went 2-2 in the Series and will likely end up ranked anywhere from fourth to sixth in the nation.

Dobyns-Bennett's Logan Gentry was chosen as the Johnson City Press Super 22 player of the year on Tuesday, ending a seven-year streak by Science Hill of having the area's top baseball player.

Baxter, 63, announced his retirement as head baseball coach of the Blue Devils on Tuesday. He said it was difficult to reach the decision.
