Around 1 p.m. on March 26, a woman living on Sugar Hollow Road reported that a man showed up at her home requesting a ride in an alleged attempt to steal her vehicle.

Former Carter County elementary school teacher Kelly Smith, 31, was sentenced Wednesday to 90 days in jail, followed by 3 years probation on his convictions of one count of aggravated statutory rape and two count of solicitation of a minor.
