'Kill or be killed': Agent says Jonesborough man claimed murder-for-hire plot was self-preservation

A former news reporter and one-time U.S. Senate candidate hatched a murder-for-hire plot to have his uncle killed because he believed the man was trying to kill him, according to testimony in a preliminary hearing Thursday.

ERWIN — District Attorney General Tony Clark previously said he intended to request dismissal of the charges former Unicoi County sheriff Kent Harris had not yet been prosecuted on. On Monday, dismissal of these charges became official.
