Wanda Ruth Royall Sauceman, JOHNSON CITY

Wanda Ruth Royall Sauceman, age 91, formerly of Greeneville, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, at NHC HealthCare in Johnson City.
Born on May 10, 1923, she was a 1940 graduate of Greeneville High School and salutatorian of her senior class.
She began work with the National Youth Administration on December 26, 1940. While there, she took courses in shorthand at the Greeneville School of Commerce. She worked for the Social Security Administration and the Draft Board before taking a job at Greene Manufacturing, where she stayed for almost 12 years. She worked as a buyer and office supervisor for the company, which made women’s dresses and, during World War II, armored flight vests.
In the 1960s, she worked part-time for the Greeneville-Greene County United Fund (now United Way) and later for the Austin Company during the tobacco market in the fall. In 1976, she joined the staff of Greene Valley Developmental Center, where she worked in the Accounting Department until her retirement in 1995.
She had been a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Greeneville for almost 80 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Royall; her husband, Fred W. Sauceman Sr.; one sister, Mary Nelle Royall Jackson Graves Perry, of Athens; and one brother, William F. Royall Jr., of Morganton, N.C.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Jill Sauceman, of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of NHC HealthCare in Johnson City, where Mrs. Sauceman spent her last three years; the staff of Caris Healthcare; and special family friends Bucky Farnor and Cecil Burgner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Jeannie Higgins and the Rev. Allen Huff, pastor of Jonesborough Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
