UNICOI — Toye Moffitt, age 82, “sailed” to his eternal home in Heaven on Monday, August 4, 2014 from the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Mitchell County, NC, he lived most of his life in the Buladean Community before moving to Unicoi, TN in 2007.
He was the youngest son and last surviving child of the late Isaac and Sylvia Street Moffitt. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Mike Moffitt; four brothers: Vester, Jess, Fred and Brownlow Moffitt; two sisters: Etta Hughes and Faye Matheny.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 61 years, Georgia Honeycutt Moffitt and his cherished daughter, Mitzi Moffitt. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
A veteran of the US Navy, he served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a long-time member of Middle District Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School superintendent and a deacon. He was also a 50 year member of the Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF and AM.
In his earlier years, he worked with Clinchfield Railroad Company. After beginning in construction work, he was employed by various construction companies and held different positions. At one time he owned and operated Moffitt’s Construction Company.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 7, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8:00 p.m. with the Reverends Scott Jenkins and Bob McCurry officiating. Interment will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Middle District Cemetery.
