Jack Thurman Milhorn, BLUFF CITY

Jack Thurman Milhorn, of Bluff City, TN, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, August 2, 2014.
Born on January 26, 1931 in the Fordtown Community of SullivanCounty, he was the son of the late Clyde and Gonzella Milhorn. He was also preceded in death by several in-laws and other relatives.
Survivors include his wife, Adele Grable Milhorn; daughter, Ramona Milhorn Williams; sister, Helen Crowe (Billy); brothers, Tom and R.E. (Carol); and brother-in-law, Harold Reed Grable. “Uncle Jack” as he was known, also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews (plus great and great-great nieces and nephews). He is also survived by awesome neighbors and special friends.
Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and trained at Parris Island. He was stationed in San Diego during the Korean Conflict. He was a Barber in Bristol, TN for many years and then retired from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division of the Tennessee Highway Patrol after 25 years of service.
We will remember him for his wit, great sense of humor, and his ability to let you know what he was thinking with facial expressions or a simple movement of his eyes. Throughout his lifetime he engaged in a variety of activities including baseball, hunting and fishing, camping, hiking, riding horses, riding motorcycles in the mountains with his friends, farming, square dancing, ballroom dancing, singing in the church choir, and later in life, Krogering and playing the game of golf.
Jack was an honest, determined, and humble man. We will miss him greatly and especially his homemade potato soup.
He was a 50 plus year member of the Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge #444 and the Order of Eastern Star #414 of Bluff City, TN. He was also a member of Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of the ER as well as those giving Jack excellent care on the 3rd and 4th floors of the BristolRegionalMedicalCenter, NHC in Johnson City, Wellmont Hospice, and the caregivers of Aid & Assist At Home.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 4, 2014 from 4:30 PM to 6:45 PM at Oakley- Cook Funeral Home in Bristol, TN. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Tom Reed officiating. The committal and interment service will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday August 5, 2014 at GlenwoodCemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard Post # 6975. Pall bearers will be Mark Milhorn, Christopher Johnston, Jeff Harkleroad, Jeff Tester, Howard Oliver, and Stanley Roberts. Pallbearers and all attending for the procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at Oakley- Cook Funeral Home at 11:30 AM.
