Cecil A.R. “Tiny” Smith, 81, Johnson City, entered into rest, Sunday, June 22, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
He was a son of the late James H. Smith and Sally Troutman Sweeney. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Moore; two brothers-in-law, Eugene Moore and Clyde Conley; one nephew, Eddie Conley; and one niece, Aimee Conley.
Mr. Smith was a US Army veteran, where he served in the special services and played football.
He was a retired employee of Holston Defense Corporation and was employed there for over 29 years and was also an antiques dealer.
He graduated from Science Hill High School, Bacombe Junior College, Masaogee, OK, and Arkansas Tech in Russeville, AR.
Mr. Smith was a very compassionate person who loved sports and believed that participating in them built character. He enjoyed antiques, coin collecting, bluegrass music and most of all spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Buc Football Foundation and had many friends, including Bob May, Bill Hampton, Jerry Robinson, J.D. Conley and Mike Conley.
Mr. Smith leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Conley Smith; one brother, Patrick Sweeney; brothers-in-law, J.D. Conley and his wife, Dot, and Bobby Conley and his wife, Betty; sister-in-law, Helen Conley; nieces and nephews, Teresa Painter, Kyle Moore, Mike Conley, Scott Conley and Gail Lewis; and many friends.
The family will greet guest and share memories Wednesday, June 25, 2014, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services, Johnson City.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Reverend Brian Nulf will officiate.
Graveside and committal services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Jonesborough, TN. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. and travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be J.D. Conley, Bobby Conley, Mike Conley, Scott Conley, Kile Moore, Billy Lewis, Bill Hampton, Bob May, Jerry Robinson and Pat Sweeney. Honorary pallbearers will be Franklin Painter, Glen Johnson, Norm Dion, Tim Hicks, Ralph Van Brocklin and Jack Maxey.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, the family suggests memorial donations be made to your favorite charity.
