Published June 6th, 2014 11:18 pm

Anna Belle Kyker Hankins, 86, of Greeneville, passed the bonds of this earth and caught a flight to Heaven on June 4, 2014, at Laughlin Healthcare.
She was born February 24, 1928, to the late Clyde C. Kyker and the late Hester Fitzgerald Kyker, of Washington County. She was the widow of the late John Gaston Hankins, who was Greene County Executive (now Mayor) from 1982-1990. They were married for 56 years until he passed away on October 4, 2007.
A native of Telford, Tennessee, she met her future husband while they both studied at Tusculum College for what would be long careers in teaching. Beginning her career at Washington College Academy, she served thirty-six years in various capacities in the Greene County School System, of which, the last twenty-five years were as the first librarian at South Greene High School.
Being visually impaired, she did her work joyfully through the grace of God. Anna Belle was a fantastic mother to her three children. She took pride in providing delicious meals for her friends and family. These meals were often accompanied with good advice for her children in a very gentle tone. She loved gardening, canning and freezing.
She was a member of the Hoe & Hope Gardening Club after her retirement. She was also a member of the Greene County Retired Teachers Organization.
Unable to read church hymnals, she knew the words of many traditional hymns which she sang often for inspiration and strength. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Crusader’s Sunday School Class, where she attended as long as her health permitted. She cherished her friends there.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Sherrill Kyker, Carroll Kyker and Lynn Dale “Sammy” Kyker.
Survivors include two sons: Joseph Lynn Hankins and his wife, Wendy, Louis Alan Hankins and his wife, Susan; a daughter: Lisa Ann Hankins Chandley and her husband, Nick. Other surviving relatives include her sisters: Vera Lee McCamey, Tommie Hopson and Mary Jane Rhudy and husband, Curtis; her grandchildren, Nicole Chandley, Trevor Chandley and John Albert Hankins; several nieces and nephews; Sisters-in-law: Lavonda Kyker and Martha Kyker.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staffs of Wellington Place, Laughlin Healthcare and Caris Healthcare for their patience and kindness.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Jeffers Mortuary Afton Chapel.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 PM at Jeffers Mortuary Afton Chapel with the Dr. Curtis Rhudy officiating.
Interment will be at the Fairview Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery on Snapps Ferry Road. Active pallbearers will be Brian Moody, Mike Moody, Eric Hankins, Eddie McCamey, Jimmie McAmis and John Alex Myers.
