Roland Tilson, ERWIN

Roland Harry Tilson, age 83, 534 Monroe Street, Erwin, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center, Mountain Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a son of the late Thomas V. and Zora Ray Tilson. Mr. Tilson retired from Hoover Ball in 1993 after ten years of service.
He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War with the First Cavalry Division and a recipient of the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge Occupation Medal (Japan).
Mr. Tilson was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Moose Club and the V.F.W. Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being on the lake and enjoyed watching wrestling and baseball.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Freeman Tilson; and five sisters, Irene Smith, Armanda Watts, Patricia Smith, Mary Lou Reedy and Lena Yates.
Mr. Tilson is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Betty Ann Riddle Tilson; two sons, Wayne Tilson and wife, Sherry, of Erwin, Mike Tilson and wife, Donna, of Jonesborough; one daughter, Brenda Tilson Edwards and husband, Steve, of Jonesborough; four brothers, Don Tilson and wife, Kathy, Fred Tilson, Bobby Tilson, all of Erwin, Thomas Tilson Jr. and wife, Jean, of Maryland; eight grandchildren, Michael, Wendy, Lindsay, Paige, Preston, Jason, Daniel and Jennifer; ten great grandchildren, Susalyn, Jared, Riley, Landon, Rene, Ryan, Trent, Ainsley, Hudson and Ireland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Burnie Jones will officiate. Music will be provided by grandchildren, Page and Preston. Pallbearers will be Preston Tilson, Michael Tilson, Jared Lambert, Tim Smith, Steve Edwards and Tim Edwards.
The Tilson Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Military graveside honors will be rendered by the Boone Dam V.F.W. Post No. 4933.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Thursday to go in procession to the 10:00 AM committal service at Evergreen Cemetery.
