Lucille Elliott Dunbar, age 92, of Erwin, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Unicoi County on April 23, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Walter Logan Elliott and Nelle Morris Elliott Beckelhimer. Mrs. Dunbar was a school teacher for 35 years, having taught at the former Martin Chapel School. She graduated from East Tennessee State University.
Lucille was a member of the Eastern Star and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was a member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church for over 65 years. Mrs. Dunbar worked closely with young people, sponsoring youth activities locally and on the association level. She produced church dramas with the youth and taught Bible School for many years. She was a Christian example for school children and gave Bibles out at school for rewards. For many years she taught Sunday school and was the superintendent of the Primary Department.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Warren Dunbar, in 2009.
Lucille Dunbar has left to cherish her memories: Daughters: Maureen Dunbar, of Erwin, Andrea Hensley, of Erwin; Grandchildren: Cara Hensley, Sydney Hensley, Logan Hensley, Caleb Dunbar, Corbin Long, and Brayden Long.
The family requests the honor of your presence as we honor and remember the life of Lucille Dunbar in a committal service to be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Evergreen Cemetery. Reverend Talmadge Brown and Reverend Noah Taylor will officiate. Those who will be attending will meet at Evergreen Cemetery by 10:50 AM.
