Mary Catherine "Katie" Kelly, JONESBOROUGH

Mary Catherine “Katie” Repass Kelly, age 78, of Jonesborough, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Johnson City, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Grace Anderson Repass. Mrs. Kelly was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, where she volunteered for The River Ministry. She was an Alumni of the University of Tennessee and had served as president of the Alumni Association.
Mrs. Kelly worked for many years as a Home Economics teacher at Daniel Boone. In addition to her volunteer work at First Presbyterian Church, she also volunteered for Mountain States Health Alliance, making stockings at Christmas time for the infants in the nursery. She was a huge UT fan, and was a master gardener. She loved to work in her garden and to work with her flowers.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Kelly, of the home; daughter, Phuong Repass Pierson, Hawaii; one sister, Lucy McPherson, Johnson City; six nieces and nephews, Tom McPherson, Mary Nell McPherson and husband Kevin, Bill McPherson and wife June, Joe McPherson and wife Paula, a special niece, Beth Arnold and husband Buddy, Lucy Crain and husband Jim. Ten great nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Kelly will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Imsande officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:45 A.M. Thursday, April 24 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those who wish to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. Wednesday. Active pallbearers will be selected from Mrs. Kelly’s nephews. Honorary pallbearer will be Sam Arnold.
