Darius “D.C.” Forrester, age 93, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday morning, April 5, 2014, at the Mountain City Care Center.
D.C. was born on July 8, 1920, to the late Andrew Johnson Forrester and Lola Katherine Gentry Forrester. In addition to his parents, D.C. was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Ruby Lois Wilson Forrester, in 1989; sisters Flo Simpson, Lucy Gentry, Georgia Shutt and Faye Gentry; two brothers: Ray Forrester and John Forrester.
He worked for 15 years for the Johnson County Highway Department and 10 years with the State of Tennessee Highway Department. D.C. was very interested and busy in many community and civic activities, he served as president of the Wilson Cemetery, was a longtime member of the American Legion, lifetime member of the V.F.W., member of the Disabled American Veterans, member of the North American Fishing Club, enjoyed being outdoors and loved to work in his vegetable garden and then sharing his vegetables with others.
D.C. was proud to be a United States Navy World War II Veteran and was honored to serve with the Johnson County Honor Guard for many years. D.C. was a member of Nelson Chapel Baptist Church.
D.C. is survived by his daughters, Paula Manuel and Linda Miller, both of Mountain City, TN; grandchildren: David Manuel, of Mountain City, Mark Miller, of Harrisburg, PA, and Marlana Ward and husband, Mike, of Mountain City; great grandchildren: Adam Manuel, Emily Ward and Abigail Ward, all of Mountain City; friends, Kenneth Blevins and John Arnold.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Terry Reece officiating. Music will be provided by Kenneth Blevins.
The graveside Service and Interment will follow at the Wilson Cemetery with Military honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Jack Forrester, Scott Forrester, Ed Forrester, David Manuel, Mark Miller, Mike Ward, Chris Baird, Jim Wilson, Earl Davis and the Johnson County Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Lonnie Denney, Duke Snyder, Ray Jenkins and all of D.C.’s many friends.
