Jean M. Barnes, JOHNSON CITY

Published April 8th, 2014 10:24 pm

Jean M. Barnes, 67, Johnson City, stepped into eternity at her home on Friday, April 4, 2014, with her husband, daughter and nurse by her side.
Born in Johnson City, she was the daughter of the late Jimmie and Frances Martin.
She had her Master’s degree in Nursing and worked as a clinical nurse manager at Woodridge Hospital until the late 90s. She then worked at a domestic violence shelter for women then moved into parish nursing for the Salvation Army, besides selling Mary Kay and children’s clothing and toys on the weekend.
Her absence will leave a void in the lives of those who knew her. She was a strong woman of faith and touched the lives of all who knew her. She spent her life ministering to others from her family, coworkers, patients, and even to those who came to comfort her in the end.
Those left who “didn’t take her to the damn chiropractor and prevent this mess” are as follows: Her husband of 35 years, Bill Barnes, and daughter, Shannon Sanborn. (inside joke for you mamma).
Those she leaves behind include her husband of 35 years, Bill Barnes; daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Loren Sanborn; and granddaughter, Sarah Sanborn, of Johnson City; two step-sons and wives, Norman and Linda Barnes, Gary and Jackie Barnes, of Johnson City. Grandchildren include: Angie, Charlie, Michelle and Raven. Great Grandchildren include: Justin, Autumn, Christa, and Darwin. Sister-in-law, Louise Williams. Cousins: Pam Simpson, Steve, Mickey and Tim Lyle. Half-sister, Kim and Step-sister, Katie.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedysis Hospice, especially Amanda Estep (former employee), Jemima Rowland and Carmen Baker, RN’s; Jessica Howell, Dawn Story, CNA’s; Dwayne Baird, Chaplain; Karen, Social Worker; Doris, Volunteer; and Dr. Mac and all others who assisted in her care.
And a special thank you to Dr. Karen Stone and the staff at Appalachian Veterinary Hospital for the years of service and friendship.
The family requests the honor of your presence at her Celebration of Life Service. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and the service will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Tetrick Funeral Services in Johnson City with her minister, Loren Sanborn, and Pastor Dwayne Baird officiating.
