Oscar Henderson Powers, ERWIN

Oscar Henderson Powers, age 89, of Erwin, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, at his residence.
Mr. Powers was born in Wise, Virginia, and a son of the late Harmon and Carrie Dotson Powers. Oscar served in WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart during his service with the U. S. Army. He worked for the UMWA, as a crane operator, retiring in 1981. Oscar was a member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Oscar is preceded in death by his brother, Harmon Powers; and a sister, Crestville.
Survivors left behind to cherish his memories are his wife: Beatrice Belcher Powers; Sons: Bill Powers, his wife, Rita, Steve Powers, his wife, Debra; Step children: Jerry Selvage, his wife, Chris, Gary Selvage, his wife, Kathy, Jeff Selvage, his wife, Lisa, Judy Davis; Grandchildren: Steve Powers, Heather Sykes, Michelle Ireson, Jamie Roberts, Jennifer Linden, Ford Davis, Jarrod Davis, Steve Selvage, Emily Selvage and Cassie Selvage; Sisters: Pauline Labat, Heneritta Stallard; 12 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nephews and Nieces.
The family request the honor of your presence as we honor and remember the life of Oscar Henderson Powers in a Celebration of life at 8 PM Sunday, April 6, 2014, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Roger Laws will officiate.
A visitation period to share memorial and offer support for the family will be at 5 PM Sunday, April 6, 2014, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home and will continue until service time.
A committal service will be Monday, April 7, 2014, at 10:45 AM at the V.A. Mountain Home Cemetery, with Military Honors. Please meet at the V.A. Mountain Home Cemetery by 10:35 AM on Monday. Serving as pallbearers will be Ford Davis, Jarrod Davis, Steve Selvage, Roy Lacey, Dean Robinson, George Turner, Paul Edwards and Kevin Powers.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donation be made to the V.A. Medical Center Hospital, send to: James H. Quillen V A Medical Center, Attn: Voluntary Services, P.O. Box 4000, Mountain Home, TN 37684.
