Jimmy Leon Helms, 66, received the unexpected calling of our Lord on February 26, 2014.
Loving son, brother, husband, father, papa and friend he is preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Helms and survived by his parents; Howard & Glenna Helms (of Ventura, CA), his best friend and soul mate, his wife of 43 years Donna Helms, his two daughters, Michelle Smith (of Stafford, VA) and Patty Morgan (of Johnson City, TN), his two son-in-laws Michael Smith & Russ Morgan, and his beloved five grandchildren; Mikaela Smith, Justin Smith, Connor Morgan, Parker Morgan and Sydney Morgan.
Jimmy was born on January 10, 1948 in Santa Paula, CA to loving parents Howard and Glenna Helms. He graduated from Adolfo Camarillo High school in 1966 and enlisted in the U.S. Army proudly serving his country for 3 years, completing 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He came home from war and married his one true love Donna Marie Olivet on September 19, 1970 and together they raised two daughters in Oxnard, CA.
Jimmy worked at Gold Coast Ambulance Service in Oxnard, CA for 43 years as the Chief Financial Officer, finally retiring in 2010. Jimmy and Donna moved to Johnson City, Tennessee in early 2012 and have been enjoying retirement together close to their children, grandchildren and dearest friends Roger and Brenda Brown.
Jimmy spent his carefree and slow paced retirement days … golfing, enjoying the varied and exciting weather of Tennessee, watching TV in his favorite chair and above all watching and playing with the grandchildren he adored. A quiet, shy, humble man, Jimmy was a gentle giant. He was a man of honor and integrity, a man of action rather than words who was never afraid to show his love for his family and friends.
