F.D. Birchfield, UNICOI

Fidel “F.D.” Birchfield, 1015 Old Iron Mountain Road, Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord at 10:15 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born in Mitchell County, North Carolina, a son of the late Charlie William and Martha Putman Birchfield. Mr. Birchfield retired in 1991 as a truck driver for Mason & Dixon Special Commodity. He also worked in a sawmill and loved to work with wood. He was a member of the Erwin First Pentecostal Church and was a Mason with 50+ years of membership in the Unicoi Masonic Lodge #681 F&AM.
Other than parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Rose; two brothers: Leonard Birchfield and George (G.W.) Birchfield.
Mr. Birchfield is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Tamna “Tam” Alice Clark Birchfield; two brothers: Bobby Birchfield and wife, Barbara, Charles Birchfield and wife, Ruby, all of Bakersville, North Carolina; four sisters: Virgie Clark, Hampton, Doris Boone, Bakersville, North Carolina, Margie Wilson and husband, Kenneth, Unicoi, Hazel Watson and husband, James, Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nursing staff of Johnson City Medical Center and Johnson City Medical Center Hospice for their love and care.
A celebration of Mr. Birchfield’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014, from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Mark Street and Reverend Earl Ragland will officiate. Special music will be provided by Joel Street, Diane Gentry, Glen Gouge and Oma Coleman.
Active pallbearers will be Doyle Coleman, Rick Ingram, Wayne Birchfield, Brandon Birchfield, Alan Rose, Jesse Pitcock and Joel Keith Street. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Birchfield, Bill Birchfield, Alan Clark, Cecil Hobson Jr., Robert Britton Arrowood and James Perdue.
Unicoi Masonic Lodge #681 F&AM will conduct Masonic rites following the Celebration of Life Service Wednesday evening.
The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the family home.
The committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014, in Roselawn Memorial Park. Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
