Don Thompson, 82, Jonesborough, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Lakebridge Heath Care Center.
Mr. Thompson was a native of Johnson City and a lifelong Washington County resident.
He was a son of the late Charles Elmer and Ruby Blevins Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a Korean War Army veteran.
He retired from H.T. Hackney Co. as a salesman in 1995 after forty-one years of service.
Mr. Thompson was a member of Locust Street Church of Christ.
He loved animals, especially dogs.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary B. Thompson, in 1984, two brothers, Jack and Bill Thompson; and one sister, Louise White.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Thompson; his daughter, Lisa Thompson Belt, Johnson City; two brothers, James T. Thompson and wife, Jeanette, Nakomis, FL, and Luther Thompson, Jonesborough; one sister, Shirley Byrd Morrison, Johnson City; two grandsons, Richie Belt and Travis Thompson, both of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, December 20, 2013, at 7:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home with Billy Jack Smith and Richard Lewis, Ministers, officiating. Special music will be provided by Gill Moody and Roddy Bird.
The family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside committal service will be held Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from nephews and friends. Those planning to attend are to meet at the funeral home Saturday by 10:30 A.M. to proceed to the cemetery.
