The Rev. Rufus E. Smith, CHURCH HILL

Rev. Rufus E. Smith, 82, Church Hill, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, at the Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
He was a native of Hurley, VA, and the son of the late Hobart and Mona Mullins Smith.
Rev. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the French Broad Church of the Brethren, Dandridge, TN.
Prior to joining the ministry full time, Rev. Smith was employed by the U.S. Postal Service.
In his ministry he served as pastor of churches in Virginia, Dandridge, TN, as well as First Church of the Brethren, Johnson City.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Irene Sluss Smith, of the home.
The family of Rev. Rufus E. Smith will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
The funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Ronald Wine officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Following the funeral service, family and friends will proceed to the Boones Creek Brethren Cemetery for committal services.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
