Floyd Kegley, ERWIN

Floyd Millard Kegley, age 94, Erwin, went home to be with the Lord Thursday afternoon, December 12, 2013, at the Center on Aging and Health.
He was born in Wythe County, Virginia, a son of the late John Millard and Carl Smelser Kegley and has been a resident of Unicoi County since 1958. Mr. Kegley was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army. He retired in 1981 as a lineman for Erwin Utilities after 23 years of dedicated service.
Mr. Kegley was a longtime devoted member of the Erwin First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Barraca Sunday School Class and was a longtime member of the building and grounds committee. He was a 50+ year Mason in Centennial Masonic Lodge #491 F&AM and was a charter member of Jericho Shrine Temple.
Mr. Kegley loved the outdoors and camping and was a member of the Valley Beautiful Camping Club.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Marie Kegley, March 27, 2010; four brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Kegley is survived by two sons: Robert E. Kegley and wife, Brenda, Erwin, Vance S. Kegley and wife, Frances, Bristol, Tennessee; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Kegley and wife, Lori, Madison, Alabama, Jonathan Kegley, Kerri King and husband, Jeff, all of Erwin; four great grandchildren: Christopher Kegley, Reid Kegley, Rilie King and Kenedy King; two brothers: Peyton Kegley and wife, Shirley, Charleston, West Virginia, Douglas Kegley, Pulaski, Virginia; two sisters: Elsie Cline, Wytheville, Virginia, and Agnes Arrit, Roanoke, Virginia. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Center on Aging and Health Special Care Unit and to the staff of Caris Hospice for their compassion and care.
Funeral service for Mr. Kegley will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013, from the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Macil Duncan, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Erwin, will officiate. Special music will be provided by Inez Chandler.
Active pallbearers will be Jonathan Kegley, Jeffrey Kegley, David Farmer, Jeff King, Doug Clark, Noel Muhn and Kenneth Silvers. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Moore, Carl Engle, Murrell Hampton and Bill Padgett.
Interment will follow the funeral service in Roselawn Memorial Park with Centennial Masonic Lodge #491 F&AM providing Masonic rites with Carlyle Love officiating with Chaplain David Burgner.
The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mr. Kegley’s son, Robert, 560 Tennessee Road, Erwin.
