Wayne Oler, AFTON

Wayne G. Oler, age 79, of Afton, TN, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Johnson City, he was a son of the late Ben and Gladys Lunsford Oler. Mr. Oler was a truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann “Smokey” Oler, in 2009.
Survivors include three children, David Oler, La Puente, CA, Wayne Oler, Johnson City, and Sharon Ledford, Johnson City; two step-children, Anthony Bandy, Nashville, TN, and Loria Cash, Afton, TN; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Oler, Jonesborough, and Jerry Oler, Johnson City; one sister, Carol Ballard, Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Oler will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, December 12, 2013, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Cash officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:45 A.M. Friday, December 13, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with military honors presented by the Boone Dam V.F.W. Active pallbearers will be Anthony Bandy, Troy Cash, Skyler Melton, Michael Tolliver, Greg Logan and Rob Keely.
Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:35 A.M. Friday.
