Billy Ray Stanley, WATAUGA

Billy Ray Stanley, age 69, passed away at home on Monday, December 9, 2013, after bravely confronting and battling bladder cancer.
Bill was born on July 19, 1944, to the late Jesse James and Bonnie Lura Hicks Stanley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virgie Banner, Margaret Williams, Ruby Guy, Virgie Ashenfelter, Ethel Mackley, Hazel Little, Pauline Wright, Birdie VanEtten and Mary Lee Stanley; and brothers, Gentry Stanley, Geter Stanley, Therman Stanley, Hobe Stanley and Herman Stanley.
Bill attended Range School and Elizabethton High School. He was in the United States Air Force for 4 years, having served during the Vietnam Era from 1962-1966 as Staff Sergeant, crew chief air mechanical on RC 130 aircraft. He also served in the Army National Guard for 4 years from 1973-1977, where he served as a SPC 4.
Bill worked for ITT North Electric for 17 years, Cantech Industries for 13 years and at the Johnson City Medical Center for 1 year, before retiring, due to disability.
He was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church and loved to bowl, hunt, fish, and also enjoyed wood working. He will be remembered for his kind and generous heart, always thinking of others. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and papaw. Bill loved and was so proud of his grandson, Charlie, more than Charlie will ever know. ...
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Linda Hurt Stanley, of the home; his daughters, Donna Jean Lane and husband, Darrel, of West Virginia, and Denise Renae Stanley, of Watauga, TN; a grandson, Charles Eddie Lyons III (Charlie), of Watauga, TN; sisters, Jeanette Ford and husband, Bob, of Elizabethton, and Wilma Stanley, of Johnson City, TN; and a brother, Jessie Donald Stanley (JD) and wife, Lydia, of Elizabethton, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family respectfully requests your presence at a funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Billy Ray Stanley on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Steve Nauman Sr. and Pastor Larry Campbell, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kathy Chambers.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday; or at the residence at anytime.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 AM on Thursday, December 12, 2013, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Charlie Murray, Matthew Murray, David Jones, Gerald (Butch) Cross and Eddie Lyons. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home at 9:45 AM on Thursday to go in procession.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Veterans Affairs Oncology, Dr. Rogers and staff, Melinda, Marty, Susan and Sherry, Radiation Oncology, Dr. Colvett and staff, Urology Dr. Kolski and staff and Amedisys Hospice of Elizabethton.
