C. Maurice Whittamore, JOHNSON CITY

C. Maurice Whittamore, age 81, Johnson City, passed away at his residence on Thursday, December 5, 2013, after surviving leukemia for the past five years.
The son of Arthur and Bess (Stitt) Whittamore, Maurice was born on June 2, 1932, in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Maurice was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School, East Tennessee State College and earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee School Of Law.
His professional life included employment with State Farm Insurance, the law offices of Bob McD. Green, the now Honorable Leon Jordan, Howard Dunbar and his own private practice. Maurice also served as Vice President and Trust Officer of First Peoples Bank in the 1970s, President of Thermal Plastic Industries and as board chairman and president of Southeast Industries, Inc.
Maurice was an avid fly fisherman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping trips with his friends along with good stories and laughs.
In addition to his parents, Maurice is preceded in death by a sister, Aileen Brown; and two brothers, Jack Whittamore and Fred Whittamore.
He is survived by June (Combs), his wife of 60 years; son, Mark (Lesa), of Johnson City; daughter, Karen (Jim) Greene, of Leesburg, Florida; one brother, Don Whiitamore and his wife, Gail, of Johnson City; one granddaughter; four step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be given to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 225 Princeton Road, Johnson City, TN 37601; or to Mountain States Hospice, 101 Med Tech Parkway, Suite 100, Johnson City, TN 37604.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, Johnson City, at 8:00 PM.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until the service hour.
A committal service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Washington County Memory Gardens at 3:30 PM. Those wishing to follow in procession are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:45 PM. Dr. J. Wayne Battle, Dr. Clarence Spannuth, Dr. David Moulton, David Odom, Quentin Tubb and Nolan Gray will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Cooper, Kenny Cooper, Jimmy Lane and Joe Stitt.
