Viola Bennett, 83, Jonesborough, entered into rest Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Bennett was a native of Yancey County, NC, and a daughter of the late Carter and Millie Byrd Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Bennett; one sister, Edna Greason; and four brothers, Homer, Richard, Boyd and Lester Phillips.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Bennett was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Gary Bennett and wife, Mary, Jonesborough, Betty Bennett Jones, Johnson City, Carol Briggs and husband, David, Flag Pond, Calvin Bennett and wife, Lou Ann, Jonesborough, and daughter, Linda Sue Hunt and husband, Bill, Johnson City; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Virginia Morrell, NC, Edward Phillips, NC, Chester Phillips, NC, Raymond Phillips, NC, W.G. Phillips, NC, and Vola Stewart, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Cherokee Baptist Church, Jonesborough.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. followed by a committal service in the church cemetery. Reverend Dwight Hobbs will officiate. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
