Alice Sherrod, JOHNSON CITY

Alice Elizabeth Sherrod, 92, Johnson City, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013, peacefully at home with family and friends.
Mrs. Sherrod was born December 5, 1920, in Strawberry Plains, TN, and had been a resident of Johnson City for most of her life.
She was the daughter of the late Ira Creed and Elizabeth Bailey Simpson.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sherrod was preceded in death by her husband, Howell H. Sherrod, M.D., whom she met while he was in medical school and she was in nursing school in Memphis.
She was a member of Downtown Christian Church.
Mrs. Sherrod traveled extensively throughout her life, and enjoyed golf, art and time with her family.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to everyone who knew her.
We will all miss her dearly.
Survivors include her four children, Howell H. Sherrod, Jr. and C. Edgar Sherrod, both of Johnson City, William D. Sherrod, Winchester, VA, and Rebecca Ann Rader, Knoxville; sister-in-law, Myrtle Simpson, Asheville, NC; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. in the Downtown Christian Church, with Dr. W. Edward Fine, Minister, officiating.
Interment will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 P.M. at the church.
