Jack Hampton, 67, of Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Hampton was born in Elizabethton to the late Harvey Logan and Virgie Johnson Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Lipford and an infant brother, Rondall Hampton.
Mr. Hampton was an educator in the Carter County School System, having taught for 32 yeas at Cloudland. He was a member of Centerview Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Hampton, of the home; one daughter, Becky Wagner and husband Rick, Elizabethton and one son, Todd Hampton and wife Christine, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Rachel Wagner, Michael Wagner and Rikki Wagner, all of Elizabethton; one brother, Joel Hampton and wife Sue, Marion, VA; one sister, Phyllis Young, AK; and a brother-in-law, Jim Lipford. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Hampton will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, November 29, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. David Irick and Mr. Steve Payne, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday; or at the residence at anytime.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 30, 2013 in the Centerview Church of Christ Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ken Arney, Chris Schutler, Sonny Pierce, Kayo Gentry, Jason Guinn, Scott Hampton, Jerry Pearman, Butch Cannon, Earl Hampton, and Dwight Collins. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Centerview Church of Christ and Employees/ Friends of Carter County Planning Commission. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at 10:15 AM at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton, to go in procession.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the American Cancer Society, C/O Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
