Clifford Baxter, UNICOI

Clifford Gordon Baxter, age 80, 600 Virginia Avenue, Unicoi, passed away Saturday evening at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Baxter was born in Harrow, England, and a son of the late Frank William and Lilian Roberts Baxter. He came to the United States in 1958, and was an employee of Clinchfield and CSX Railroad until his retirement in 1993.
Mr. Baxter was a lifelong Christian and member of the Baptist faith.
He loved to sing, especially in nursing homes, and to deliver Meals on Wheels, along with words of cheer. He was a most devoted son, brother, and uncle.
Other than his parents Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by a brother, David Leslie Baxter, and wife, Betty, of Haddenham, England.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Joan Garland and husband, Ralph, Unicoi; three brothers: Ronald G. Baxter, and wife, Rita, Basingstoke, England, Dr. Colin F. Baxter and wife, Tamara, Kingsport; and Dr. Paul R. Baxter and wife, Joanna, LaGrange, Georgia; three nieces: Michelle Garland Browning and husband, Robert, Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Paula Johnson and husband, Philip, Birmingham, AL, Sarah Fletcher and husband, Galen, Greer, SC; one nephew, Andrew C. Baxter and wife, Monet, Johnson City; two special great nephews: Christopher and Jonathan Browning, Jacksonville, Fl.
Funeral service for Mr. Baxter will be Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Paul R. Baxter and Reverend Garland Thayer will officiate.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 5:00 pm. Special music will be provided by organist, Inez Chandler.
