Bill Cooper, GRAY

Bill Cooper, 81, Gray, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Wellmont Hospice of Bristol.
A native of Altapass, NC, he was the son of the late John and Texie Dayton Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon. Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired freight auditor and had been employed 38 years, retiring from Carolina Freight Trucking Company.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by siblings, Jessie Hughes, Paul Cooper, David Cooper, and Polly McCurry.
Mr. Cooper enjoyed gardening, working in his lawn, watching football being outdoors.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruth E. Cooper of Gray; son, Brian Cooper and wife, Tracy, of Lenexa, KS; daughter, Carolyn Cobb and husband, Brian of Columbia, GA; grandchildren, Brandon and Michael Cooper, Brittany Cobb King of Anchorage, AK, Erin and Andrew Cobb; siblings, Evelyn Hill of Asheville, NC, Valeen Newquist of Chicago Heights, IL, Jack Cooper of El Paso, TX, Lee Cooper of Mars Hill, NC, Bob Cooper of Green Mountain, NC, Earnest Cooper of Burnsville, NC and George Warrick, Deltona, FL.
The family of Bill Cooper will receive friends Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Kingsport, TN from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the church. Pastor Charles Echols will officiate. The Graveside service will follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in memory of Mr. Cooper to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation, Northeast TN Chapter, 207 N.
