Billy Wayne Gillenwater Jr., JOHNSON CITY

Billy Wayne “Groundhog” Gillenwater Jr., 53, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Abingdon, VA, and the son of the late Billy Wayne Gillenwater Sr. and Betty Pippen Gillenwater.
He retired as Manager of the body shop after twenty years of service at Chaparral Pontiac GMC in Johnson City. Groundhog loved working on old cars and motorcycles. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his many friends.
Groundhog is survived by his wife, Lesia Gillenwater; daughter, Brandi Gillenwater; father and mother-in-law, Carroll E. and Dottie Tipton; brother-in-law, Timmy Tipton; special friends, Gale “Bones” Phelps and wife, Kim, Toby Phelps, Amanda Phelps, Debbie Kendrick and husband, Bill; niece, Delani Mullins; nephew, Dustin Dulaney; and his special K-9 friends, Macy, Baxter and Berkley.
A Celebration of Life for Billy Wayne “Groundhog” Gillenwater will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013, at 7:00 PM in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Larry Grovier officiating.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
A Graveside and Committal service will be held in Phelps Cemetery, Washington County, VA, at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Timmy Tipton, Toby Phelps, Chris Cunningham, Arlen Johnson, Waylon Salyer, and Gale Phelps. Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Dulaney, Mike Dulaney, the Dulaney family and Bill Kendrick. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery on Saturday by 12:50 PM.
