Clay Atwood, 81, Elizabethton passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late Joe Stanley and Emma Carolyn Morgan Atwood. He had lived in Ohio for 30 years before returning to Elizabethton. He was a retired Boller Maker. Mr. Atwood was a member of the Beck Mountain Baptist Church. He was a fifty year member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. In his earlier years, he loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Betsy Faye Harmon Atwood who died January 2, 2012, by his son: Richard Atwood, Two Brothers: Bud Atwood and his wife Agnes and George Atwood and two sisters: Ruth Shaver and Joan Jenks.
Survivors include a daughter: Wilma Shell and husband Homer, Elizabethton. 6 Grandchildren and ten Great Grandchildren. A Sister: Joyce Bullard of the home. One Brother: Ed Atwood and wife Edith, Doylestown, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Dereta Atwood, Manatua, Ohio; Several nieces & nephews. His special friends: John & Margaret Campbell.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 12 Noon Wednesday, November 13, 2013 in the Buntontown Cemetery. Music will be provided by Greater Glory. Pallbearers will be Nephews. “The family would like to express a special “Thank You” To Dr. David Moulton and his many special friends in Tennessee and Ohio for their support through the years. Hampton Masonic Lodge # 750 will conduct a memorial service following the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
