Betty Lou Day, ELIZABETHTON

Mrs. Betty Lou Hathaway Day, age 80, of Elizabethton, TN, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Elizabethton, she was the daughter of the late Harry Carriger Hathaway and Sarah Emily Wilcox Hathaway.
Betty Lou was a 1951 graduate of Elizabethton High School, the 1950 Homecoming Queen and a majorette on the 1949 State Champion Cyclone Band. She was active as a cheerleader and majorette. She remained an American Patriot and a dedicated Cyclone fan her entire life.
She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Alberta “Bo” Lusk, Janey Knox and Dorothy “Dottie” Broome; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Knox and Joe Lusk; three nephews, James Levan Broome, David Brian Broome and John Chester Knox II; and a great-nephew, Casey Lowe.
Survivors include her husband, H. Millard Day, of the home; five children, Dicky Lou Cooter, Elizabethton, and her special friend, Chris Cantey, Michael Roy Cooter and wife, Stephanie, Johnson City, Col. Mark Alan Cooter and wife, Maj. Angelina Maguinness, United States Air Force; Matthew Hathaway Cooter, Greeneville, and his wife, Melissa, and Kent Day and wife, Donna, Statesville, NC; eleven grandchildren, Traci Hoffman, Jasen Hoffman, Justin Cooter, Brittany Cooter, Taylor Leichliter and her husband, Jonathan, Jaclyn Cooter, Katie Cooter, Evan Day, Drew and Addy Armbrister and Aidan Cooter; nieces and nephews, Harriet Lowe, Cocoa, FL, Lisa Lusk, Amy Lusk and Scott Lusk, all of Johnson City, and Linda Broome Crowe, Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Carroll Broome. Several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins also survive.
Inurnment service for Mrs. Betty Lou Hathaway Day will be conducted at 3:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 13, 2013, in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ray Amos officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Jerry Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be member of the Elizabethton High School graduating classes of 1950-1951.
The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, prior to the inurnment service or at the residence of her daughter, Dicky Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN, at other times.
