James E. "Jim" Peterson, ERWIN

James E. “Jim” Peterson, age 86, of Erwin, passed away on October 30, 2013, at his residence.
He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Winkler and Agnes McKinney Peterson. James was employed by the US Post Office and also was a former Mayor, Alderman and County Commissioner for the Town of Erwin.
He was an U. S. Army Veteran, serving in WWII. James was a member of the Elks Lodge for 53 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years: Jean Goodin Peterson; Sister: Edna Bailey; Brothers: Earl Peterson and Earnest “Red” Peterson.
James has left to cherish his memories his wife of 21 years: Vivian Hobson Peterson; Daughter: Pamela Peterson Mobley, her husband, Ed, of Knoxville; Grandson: Chris Mobley, of Knoxville; Sister: Lois Peterson Lilley, of Erwin.
The life of James E. Peterson will be remembered and honored in a funeral service at 3:00 PM Saturday, November 2, 2013, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Pastor Jacob Willis will officiate.
A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 2:00 PM and continue until the service on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Valley Funeral Home.
The family will attend a private graveside service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601 (423-926-2921) or you may pick up an envelope for the American Cancer Society at Valley Funeral Home.
