Vernon Whisman, age 71, of Jonesborough, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
A native of Johnson City, he was the son of the late Robert Thomas Vernon and Bessie Dee Hylton Whisman. Mr. Whisman was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was owner and operator of Sanders Equipment Sales on West Market Street in Johnson City. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Whisman, Jonesborough; two step-daughters, Valerie McKee and partner Robert Hinds, Fall Branch, TN, Ashly McKinney and husband Brad, Jonesborough; special son, Danny Woodruff, Johnson City; grandchildren, Will, Mandy, Ethan McKinney, all of Jonesborough; two sisters, Elizabeth Hahn and husband Dale, Wytheville, VA, Carolyn Armstrong and husband Charles, Richmond, VA; nieces Kelly Rosenbaum and husband Jamie, and their children, Chase, Brock, and Grant, Wytheville, VA, Scott and Leigh Armstrong, and children, Lindsey and Wesley, Richmond, VA. Several Cousins also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Whisman will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, October 17, 2013 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Dykes officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
