Reverend Ricky Lynn Pate, age 56, of Johnson City, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at his residence.
Born January 23, 1957, in Erwin, TN, to the late Dewey and Irene Johnson Pate, he was a native of Yancey County.
Mr. Pate served as pastor for West Park Street Free Will Baptist Church, of Erwin, Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church, of Tipton Hill, NC, Odoms Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, of Buladean, NC, Davistown Free Will Baptist Church, of Old Fort, NC, and Eastern Gate Free Will Baptist Church, of Johnson City, TN. Reverend Pate was a member of Eastern Gate Free Will Baptist Church, of Johnson City, TN.
Mr. Pate was known to be a master carpenter who could build anything.
Survivors include: His wife: Connie Cooper Pate, of Johnson City, TN; Sisters: Betty Jean Boone, of Burnsville, NC, Twin Sister: Janet Sue McKeehan, of Burnsville, NC; Brothers: Dewey Pate Jr. and wife, Rebecca, of Burnsville, NC, Melvin Louie Pate and wife, Patricia, of Burnsville, NC; Sister-in-law: Jackie Butler and husband, Rick, of Unicoi, TN; Nieces: Heather Butler Davis and Tiffany Butler; Nephews: Joe Pate, John Pate, Rodney Boone, Randy Boone, Mark Carroll and Matthew Carroll.
The life of Reverend Ricky Lynn Pate will be remembered and honored in a funeral service at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 11, 2013, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Pastor Louie Pate and Reverend Jackie Cole will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Heather Butler Davis, Tiffany Butler, McNeese Family and by the Johnson City Free Will Baptist Duet.
A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 5:00 PM and continue until service time at Valley Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Connie’s sister, Jackie Butler, 1005 Highway 107, Unicoi, TN 37692.
A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Dewey Pate Family Cemetery, Green Mountain, NC. Those who will attend are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:00 AM to go in procession to Dewey Pate Family Cemetery on Saturday. Serving as active pallbearers are Mark Carroll, Junior Pate, Rick Butler, Joe Pate, John Pate, Kevin Briggs, and Chris Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Boone, Randy Boone, Matthew Carroll, Bill Privette, Bill McPeters, Kaedan Davis, Robert C. Allen, Harvey Carver, Steve Carver and Dale Campbell.
