Harold Keith Deakins, age 79, of Gray, TN, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, at his residence.
A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Deakins retired after 38 years of service from Holston Defense Corporation. He was a member of ISA (Instrumentation Society of America), a PLC programmer and taught calculus and trigonometry at Northeast State Community College.
After becoming a pilot he was trained in instrument flying with his passion being small airplanes. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling most of the United States and saw a few foreign countries.
Mr. Deakins was a member of Gray United Methodist Church.
Keith will be remembered as a very loving and caring husband, father and friend.
Mr. Deakins is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lee “Dick” Deakins & Ruth Katherine (Glover) Deakins; and a brother-in-law, Charlie Nuckols.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Doris Lynne Nuckols Deakins; son, David K. Deakins & wife, Pam, of Jonesborough, TN; two daughters, Nancy Sutphin & husband, Farrell, of Jonesborough, TN, and Debra A. Deakins, of Gray, TN; step-daughter, Lori Nutter, of Bristol, TN; three brothers, Kermit Deakins & wife, Janice, of Jonesborough, TN, Jerry Deakins & wife, Ann, of Elizabethton, TN, and Phillip Deakins & wife, Debby, of Gray, TN; sister, Peggy Cowden & husband, Wayne, of Fall Branch, TN; grandchildren, Bill Sutphin & wife, Jane Ann, of Smyrna, TN, Caroline Deakins, of Johnson City, TN, Landon Deakins & Lacy, of Jonesborough; step-grandchildren, Sabrina Poore & Chelsea Ramey, of Bristol, TN; one great-grandson, Lucas Deakins; brothers-in-law, Randy Nuckols & wife, Carolyn, of Hixson, TN, Danny Nuckols & wife, Beverly, of Gray, TN, Gary Nuckols & wife, Regina, of Chuckey, TN, Eddie Nuckols & wife, Barbara, of Jonesborough, TN, and Tim Nuckols, of Jonesborough, TN; sister-in-law, Peggy Solomon, of Mosheim, TN; several nieces & nephews; and a special caregiver, Patty Davis.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jody Jenkins officiating at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, Blountville, TN.
