Cecil Oral Self, 87, Sioux Trail, Greeneville, died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Laughlin Health Care Center.
Mr. Self retired as a QC Tech for Phillips Consumer Electronics after 44 years of service.
He was of the Methodist tradition of faith.
Mr. Self was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, a member of VFW Post #1990. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Belle Kite Self and was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Frances Louise Arwood Self; his very close friend of 67 years, Jessie Gosnell.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Loral Louise “Lollie” and Freddie Lamb; son and daughter-in-law: Steven and Dawn Self, all of Greeneville; grandchildren: Lisa Machi and husband, Dustin, of Blacksburg, VA, Christopher Lamb and wife, Jennifer Jordan, of Jonesborough; great grandchildren: Lucas Machi, of Blacksburg, VA, Abigail Lamb, of Jonesborough; best friend and fishing buddy: Roger Krase; his many close friends and neighbors.
The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, at Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Rev. Ginger Isom and Rev. Jon Pursley will officiate.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at GreeneLawn Memory Garden Pallbearers will be Roger Krase, Rick Doud, Ron Crum, Richard Meade, Steve Isley, Wallace Watlington and Phil Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Family and friends are asked to meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
