Pauline “Polly” Peace Asberry Miller, age 94, of Erwin passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Born on November 11, 1918 in Bluefield, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Marion Calvin and Helen Thompson Asberry. Polly was born on Armistice Day, the day that World War I ended, and so her middle name, Peace, honors that day of rejoicing for the entire world.
She was a loving homemaker, and also worked as a buyer for Kings Department Store for 15 years. She was a long time member of First Christian Church of Erwin where she was a member of the Christian Circle and Choir. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing and soap operas. She served as the director of March of Dimes of Unicoi County for 8 years.
In addition to her parents, Polly is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hugh Miller, Sr. Survivors include: Daughter: Barbara Alford Treadway of Johnson City, TN; Son: Robert H. Miller, II of Charleston, W. VA; Grandsons: Robert Milton Alford, II of Johnson City, TN; Christopher Eric Alford of Jonesborough, TN; Great Grandchildren: Amanda Nicole Alford of Johnson City, TN; Samuel Christian Alford of Jonesborough, TN; Adam Malone Alford of Jonesborough, TN; Special Great Grandson: Greyson Jett Snyder of Johnson City, TN; Step Grandchildren: Michael Curtis and Denise Brown of Huntsville, AL; Kristen Brown and Wesley Blake of Huntsville, AL; Anthony Bruce Lambert of Bluefield, W. VA; Step Great Grandchildren: Jared, Steven, Collin and Cassidy Brown; Logan, Carson, Griffin and Holden Blake; Brother and Sister: George and Charlotte Miller of Jonesborough, TN; Good and faithful friends Gerald and Irene Lemmon; And several Nieces and Nephews.
A visitation period, to share memories and offer support to the family will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2013 in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will begin at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery with Robert Alford, Sr. officiating. Those attending the graveside service should meet at Evergreen Cemetery by 10:50 AM Tuesday.
