David Hughes Jr., ELIZABETHTON

David Hughes Jr., 76, Elizabethton passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Monday, September 9, 2013, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late David Hughes Sr. and Dealie Stephens Hughes. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service with the rank of Senior Master Sgt. His family traveled extensively throughout his career. He was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Hughes; and a sister: Sophina Ware.
A loving father and husband, his survivors include his wife of 55 years: Helen Morrell Hughes; Four Daughters & Sons-in-Law: Robin and Frank Burroughs, Johnson City, Jeanne & Jim Cavin, Elizabethton, Tina & Clarence Lyons, Hampton, and Lori & Dan Slater, Cedar Falls, Iowa; A Son & Daughter-In-Law: David & Linda Hughes, Greenville, South Carolina; Nine Grandchildren; nine Great Grandchildren; A Brother: Richard Hughes, Hampton; A Sister: JoAnn Hathaway, Old Fort, North Carolina; Several Nieces & Nephews.
Private Services will be held at the Graveside Monday, September 16, 2013, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery for family and close friends. Military Honors will be provided by Shaw Air Force Base, Sumter, South Carolina.
Friends may visit with the family at the residence anytime.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge.
