James "Jim" Irvin Giles, JOHNSON CITY

James (Jim) Irvin Giles, age 94, of Johnson City, passed away in NHC HealthCare Center on Friday, September 6, 2013, following several months of declining health.
Born in Coalwood, West Virginia, Jim was a son of the late D.C. and Cordelia Giles. He was reared in the Methodist faith and was a former member of Princeton Presbyterian Church in Johnson City.
A WWII Army veteran, Jim served in the Asian/Pacific Theatre with the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team and the 462nd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. Jim was owner and operator of Spring Service Company in Johnson City for sixty-one years.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of almost sixty-eight years, Evelyne Giles; two brothers, Loman and Tasker Giles; and two sisters, Beatrice Burgess and Devona Miller.
He is survived by one daughter, Lynn Haren and husband, Sam; one son, Ven Giles; one grandson, Grant Rowland III and wife, Tiffany; three great-grandchildren, Eden, Luke and Ally Rowland; two sisters, Arlecy Moore and Juanita Lane, of Gastonia, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt “Thank You” to the NHC personnel and especially to the NHC Station 1 Staff for the dedicated, compassionate, and loving care they gave Jim during his last two months. The exceptional care Jim received was a special blessing to him and his family. Also, the family thanks the Caris Hospice Staff for all of their support, concern and kindness during Jim’s last month.
Graveside funeral services and interment will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2013, at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Pastor Wade McAmis officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Appalachian Funeral Home prior to the services. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
