Howard J. Phillips, JOHNSON CITY

Howard J. Phillips, 82, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Washington County and Son of the late William David and Elizabeth Oliver Phillips. Mr. Phillips was retired from the United States Air Force with 25 years of accredited service. After retirement he moved his family back to Washington County from Charleston, SC, where he and his wife opened several local businesses, including Ruby’s in downtown Johnson City and Ruby’s Cool Ade Shop in Jonesborough.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William David and Elizabeth Oliver Phillips; and siblings, Clarence E. Phillips, William H. Phillips, Walter C. Phillips and Maxine Butler Hayes.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruby Miller Phillips; children, Penny Phillips Walters and husband, John, Tina Phillips Brown, Toney Phillips, Marshall Phillips and wife, Marlene, Marlo Adams and husband, William, Samantha Correll and husband, John, and brother, Thomas E. Phillips and wife, Peggy; 12 Grandkids; 7 Great Grandkids; and several cousins.
Mr. Phillips was of the Christian faith.
