Albert L. Raby, 81, of Johnson City, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Raby was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Knoxville, TN, and was a son of the William and Geneva Mauman Raby, who preceded him in death along with a half sister, Edith Davis.
Mr. Raby is survived by his wife Betty (Garland) Raby; two sons, Jim Raby and Allen Raby, of Unicoi; his daughters and their spouses, Sherry and Jamie Wood, McDonough, Ga., and Diana and Jonathan Moore, Johnson City. Mr. Raby also has eleven living grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Truman Raby and wife, Faye, as well as one sister, Faye Reeves and husband, Otis, all of Knoxville, TN.
Mr. Raby was a member of Cherokee Church of Christ. He retired from Nuclear fuel Services in 1992.
His interests included living a healthy life style, both spiritually and physically, enjoying the company of his family and friends and watching golf, football and NASCAR.
His smile and presence will be missed by his family and friends. He always offered sound advice with a loving attitude and encouraged those around him to be great in all their endeavors. He had a great sense of humor and made those in his company feel at ease.
The family would like to express their gratitude to his friends from Cherokee Church of Christ who have demonstrated Christian love over several years. We also appreciate the kindness expressed by his friends from Paint and Lacquer supply, Don Perkins and Larry Townson. Thanks to all the physicians, nurses, therapists and medical personnel from Mountain States Health Alliance for your exceptional and compassionate care over the past several years.
The funeral service for Mr. Raby will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Friday, September 6, 2013, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Moore officiating. Music will be by Mr. Carroll Hurd.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 7, at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:25 A.M. Saturday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
