Ralph F. Hicks, 74, of Piney Flats, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Vanes & Charity Pressnell Hicks and was born in Sullivan County on August 2, 1939. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Ruth Hicks; two sisters, Martha Hampton and Loucile Godsey.
Mr. Hicks was a United States Army Veteran and retired from Gordon’s Furniture. He was a former member of Hillcrest Free Will Baptist Church for over thirty-five years but had attended Straightway Chapel Free Will Baptist Church for the last two years.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Gladys Hicks, of the home; three sisters, Betty Godsey, Piney Flats; Yvone Walker and Reva Faggons, both of Johnson City; three stepchildren, Dwayne Nance and wife, Manana, Bluff City; Greg Nance and wife, Carrie, Elizabethton; Lisa Crusenberry and husband, Harvey, Piney Flats; eleven step grandchildren, including a special step granddaughter, Lindsey Crusenberry; and several step great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Tetrick Funeral Home - Bluff City Chapel with Pastor Tony Cook and Pastor Roger Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-7:30 PM or at the residence at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at New Bethel Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard.
Active pallbearers will be Harvey Crusenberry, Todd Malone, Travis Peake, Christopher Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Michael Shipley and Tyler Shuford. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Hunt, JW Mann, Charlie Morrison, Van Peterson, Tex Scalf, Arnold Wayne Shipley and Donald Shuford. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 PM on Thursday for the graveside service.
