Kent Alan Edwards, age 55, 4085 Old Asheville Highway, Flag Pond, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly early Saturday morning, August 31, 2013, at his home. He was a lifelong resident of Flag Pond, a son of Ida Edwards, Flag Pond and the late Lloyd “Mutt” Edwards who passed away in 1964.
He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as usher and provided music from time to time.
Kent was a 32nd Degree Mason and past Master of Centennial Lodge # 491 F&AM and was a member of the Eastern Star #276.
He loved to fly fish and hunt but his first love was playing music. Kent was well known throughout the area for his banjo and guitar music. He was one of the founding members of the Muddy River Boys and has played in various other bands through the years. Kent was a former employee of Crawford Appliance Company. After 27 years of dedicated service with Crawford, he opened his own business, Kent’s Appliance and Repair and for over ten years has served the people of this area with quality appliances and appliance repair. Kent was a member of the United Emmaus Community and the Unaka Rod and Gun Club. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and son.
Other than his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Tyler Edwards in 2003.
Other than his mother, he is survived by the love of his life, Michelle “Missy” Edwards, his loving wife of 26 years; two sons: Byron Edwards, Clarksville, Tennessee and Alan Edwards, Erwin.
Funeral service for Kent will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from the Calvary Baptist Church. Reverend David Crutchfield and Reverend Mark Morgan will officiate. Following the funeral service, Masonic rites will be provided by Centennial Lodge # 491 F&AM with Chaplain David Burgner and Mr. Carlyle Love presiding. Special music will be provided by Appalachian Trail, Larry Pate and Gary Amos.
Active pallbearers will be Rocky Allen, Mike Honeycutt, John Hams, Dave Burgner, Ben McNabb and Allen Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Lafever, Bob LaFever, Bill Burleson, Randy Garland, Jim Jackson, Edison Waller, Nunley Wade II, fellow members of the Unaka Rod and Gun Club, fellow Masons of Centennial Lodge # 491, fellow members of Eastern Star # 276 and so many other close friends that are too many to mention.
The family will receive friends prior to the service between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the family home.
Committal service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013, in Evergreen Cemetery. Special music will be provided by Mr. Tony Rominger.
Those attending are asked to meet at the funeral home by 11:00 a.m Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
