Geraldine “Gerri” Blackburn Whitely, 71, Piney Flats, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013, in the Indian Path Hospital, Kingsport.
A native of White Head, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Rev. G.R. & Alma Watson Blackburn. Gerri was a 1959 graduate of Bel Air High School, Bel Air, Maryland. She had lived a number of years in Tennessee. Gerri was a former manager of the Village East Apartments, Elizabethton.
She was a minister of music who loved gospel music and playing the organ, but most of all she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Indian Springs Baptist Church, Kingsport.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Whitely, in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter: Michelle Whitely, Rock Hill, South Carolina; A Sister: Janice Hardin and husband, John, of Elizabethton; Three Nephews: Tony Hardin and wife, Susan, Butler, Tracy Hardin and wife, Wendy, Elizabethton, and Travis Hardin, Beaverton, Oregon; Three Great Nephews and two great nieces. The father of her daughter, Dean Whitely. Her special friends: Jerry Crain and Kay Bragg. Her two granddogs: Ambrosia and Keila.
A Service to Celebrate the life of Gerri Whitely will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Gerald Holly and Rev. Charles Roberts officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013, in the Piney Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, Piney Creek, North Carolina, with the Rev. Bobby Adams officiating. Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Friday, will be: Michelle Whitely, Ron Crain, Tony Hardin, Tracy Hardin, Jonathan Hardin and Thomas Hardin.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of the Indian Path Hospital and Dr. Todd Whitaker.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of her sister and brother-in-law: Janice & John Hardin, 170 Mayfield Drive, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Friday.
