CHUCKEY — Marie “Hannah” Brown Wilhoit, Chuckey TN, was born July 24, 1920 in Greene County and passed away August 14, 2013. She joined her husband Hugh C. Wilhoit, who passed away February 14, 1971.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be sorely missed by all.
She was a 1938 graduate of Chuckey High School and attended Johnson City Business College. She was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and Women’s WMCA where they made several homemade quilts in years past. She enjoyed cooking and lending a helping hand when someone was in need.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Ben H. & Ferbia Broyles Brown, and a brother, Arnold Brown.
Survivors include: daughter, Mary Frances (Fran) and her husband, Richard N. Burgner of Milligan College, TN; grandsons: Neil Burgner and wife, Margie of Limestone, TN, Gerald Burgner and wife, Rebecca of Raleigh, NC; sister, Joyce Patton of Johnson City, TN; nieces: Karen Patton and Helen Potter of Johnson City, TN, Allie Reaves of Chuckey, TN; nephews: Ben Patton of Elgin, IL; Robert “Bob” Patton of Johnson City, TN, and Wayne Brown of Chuckey, TN; several great-nieces and nephews and several cousins.
A special thanks to her caregivers at Christian Care Center, Amedisys, Gerald and Rebecca Burgner, and Karen Patton for their compassion, care and love they gave. Also a special thanks to Rev. Walter Isley, Rev. Bill Greer, and Rev. Terry Jones for their many visits.
The family will receive friends Friday, 5-7 p.m. at Jeffers Funeral Service in Afton, with the funeral at 7 p.m. in the Afton chapel with Rev. Joe Miller and Rev. Dwight McPherson officiating. Family and friends are requested to meet at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery for a graveside service which will be conducted on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 10 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Richard Burgner, Neil Burgner, Gerald Burgner, Ben Patton, Robert “Bob” Patton, and Wayne Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Burgner, James Potter, and Andrew Patton.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made out to the Cedar Grove Cemetery Fund and sent to Ted Wilhoit, 2275 Old Jonesbourgh Rd., Chuckey, TN 37641.
